Tilgate area guide
Formed in 1955 on the south side of Crawley, Tilgate now has a population of around 6,200 people living in some 2,600 households.
The housing stock mainly consists of three bedroom ex-local authority terraced housing. The majority of the residents are younger families - and a tip for any buyer is to find a property with parking or potential for parking, as this can be tight in some parts of Tilgate.
There is a demand from tenants, but not as strong as some other parts of the town. A three bedroom rental property would let on average for £1,200 PCM and they generally sell for around £300,000.
Tilgate is famous for its park which is an area of outstanding beauty with lakes, acres of forest land and a nature reserve. Tilgate golf course is hugely popular.
The area has Crawley's largest local shopping parade and is home to the fantastic K2 leisure centre. A bus service links Tilgate and K2 Crawley leisure centre with the town centre and hospital.
There are two local primary schools The Oaks (Ofsted) and Desmond Anderson(Ofsted) - as well as the Thomas Bennett Community College (Ofsted).
