Ifield area guide
Ifield, in the west of Crawley, is one of the most historic areas of the town and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. With the development of the new town in 1947, the village of Ifield was merged with the small market town of Crawley and the village of Three Bridges to become Crawley new town.
In the 2011 census, Ifield was recorded as having a population of 8,882. Together with Ifield Green, there is a mix of both modern and traditional housing, together with three neighbourhood shopping areas. There are also plenty of local facilities, including Ifield Mill Pond, considered "the most important wetland site in Crawley", which is a popular area for walking and supports a rich selection of wildlife.
Ifield has good bus links into the town centre and a rail station with services to London. It also benefits from its own private golf course and a barn theatre in Ifield Green.
The property stock in Ifield consists mainly of 3 bedroom terraced housing, with an average cost of around £290,000. Ifield West - a newer part added in the 1970s - has a more varied housing mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom properties. Single bedroom houses in Ifield West cost around £200,000.
Because the housing in Ifield West is more modern, it is a very popular with the rental market. A 1 bed property fetches around £800 PCM, while a 2 bedroom property around £950 PCM.
There are three local primary/junior schools of which the Mill Primary Academy(Ofsted) and Our Lady Queen of Heaven (Ofsted) were both rated good in 2016, and St Margaret's Church Of England School which was rated requires improvement (Ofsted).
For secondary schools, Ifield Community College was rated by Ofsted as requiring improvement in 2016, while St Wilfred's (Ofsted) and Holy Trinity (Ofsted) schools were both rated good.
